No Holds Barred: AOL/WIN Blatently Rips Off Digg.com
Ok, I’ve been outta touch with the happenings in the blogosphere over the past few months. Actually, that’s not true: I’ve been purposefully avoiding addressing any ‘issues’ related to blogging because it’s just too expensive when crybabies retaliate and sue, shut down hosting accounts, whatever…
But this last major announcement makes my blood boil
This post by Darren Rowse of Problogger.net (and I love the guy and his blog) brought it to my attention.
Jason Calacanis, now an AOL employee and former owner of Weblogs Inc. is heading up the repurposing/relaunch of Netscape.com - as a blatent ripoff of the Digg.com model with a few revisions here and there to make it appear different.
Alert: Foul Language beyond this point. People who take offense to cursing and foul language should not click this link…
Have all the fucking numbskulls out there who have read JC’s former snivveling about people and sites ripping off WIN’s biz model/sites/functionality completely forgotten? Jesus Christ almighty, this is one of the foremost voices against content theft, rss feed theft, code theft, etc. and now he’s heading up the team that’s rebuilding Netscape.com into a Digg clone???
You know, all you people who find this fascinating… what if YOU, or I or anyone else did this?? What if Bloglogic.net were to build a Digg ripoff and add a little here and there to thinly disguise it.
How the fuck would that be recieved on the net and especially in the blogosphere? You and I would be fucking thieves!
But JC/AOL does it and they’re GODS.
“Oh, these stats will be interesting to follow” is all I see out there, or similar remarks.
Ok, Here’s my prediction:
Within the next 3-12 months, JC/AOL does a ripoff of YouTube.com as well.
Low Rent Jason Calacanis. Low Rent and NOT very Classy.
But, obviously, when it comes to making money or getting ahead, there are no rules. Not even your own.
P.S. Kevin Rose, this is a chance for you to become a Multi-millionnaire. Grab it dude. Any Judge with one eyeball and the ability to double-click on an IE icon WILL rule in your favor.

[...] Now, after my previous rant about JC and his new baby, let’s see if I can’t get Bloglogic.net on the front page - without getting edited into oblivion. *Grin* [...]
