Lifehacker 2.0 Comment Slam

Lifehacker, one of Nick Denton’s Gawker Media stable of blogs just got a major redesign and with nearly 200 negative comments, it ain’t looking good. I’m an avid Valleywag and Lifehacker reader and I don’t know what the designers over at Gawker have been smoking, but they definitely got a bad batch. Take a look at these Gawker sites: Lifehacker, Valleywag, Kotaku and Fleshbot < --NSFW.

What do you think of these layouts? Please tell me it isn't just my own personal preferences on site design that make me wanna click away.

I know, I know. My designs aren something you take a screenshot of, print it out, frame and hang on your wall, but why-oh-why would these guys toss usability out the window in favor of... hmmm... That!

Sorry Gawker. Your rationale that if you look at something ugly long enough, you'll get used to it, doesn't work for me and nearly 200 commenters.

I kinda like the new design at Lifehacker….anything that makes the masses pissy !

I’m still rubbing my eyes Mike, but yeah, it’s getting lots of feedback. Hopefully the powers that be over there take notes on all that constructive criticism and refer to them before their next wave of site-revamping.

The page that you linked above was unreadable using I.E.v7 .. until the 5th comment down .. I’d let them know - but I continue to refuse to register to be able to comment on that blog. I think that’s wrong.

    PS: looking good here.
