Who Needs Venture Capital?

paulAfter browsing the sickening array of widget sites, MySpace clones, Aggregators and social bookmarking wannabes that are getting multi-millions in funding lately, my jaw is bruised from hitting the floor so many times.

It seems that venture capital firms are throwing big bucks at any round-cornered, AJAX powered online app with no visible means of monetization, and a cool name ending with the letter “r.” The only hope most of these sites have is a possible future buyout by Google or Yahoo!.

I mean, come on. How many browser extensions can one social bookmarking, RSS reading junkie possibly install and remember to use on a daily basis?

So here’s my short-list of people and companies who deserve at least $1.5 mil in VC funding, cuz they’re visionaries:

1. b5media - FOX noticed them. Now it’s time for the VC’s to notice them too.

2. Performancing - They have some pretty impressive tools and apps that are gaining in popularity, and more on the slate.

Pull out the pens, moneybags, and start writing these guys some checks. Invest in some REAL businesses with staying power rather than bubble blowers.
